THE "I WANT TO SEE JANE" CAMPAIGN

What It Is:

The Campaign is a series of online videos created by women and girls who watch TV/film, women who make TV/film, and people who care about what they and young children see on TV/ in film. Watch other videos on Channel GDIGM.

Why We're Doing It:

GDIGM doesn't want any Jane to grow up believing she is only worthy of sidekick status in real life or on screen, or any Joe believing that about girls, either. We seek as many entries as possible, so we can spread them around the world. Be part of this campaign to see more "Janes" on TV and in movies aimed at kids.

How You Can Be a Part of It:

This is the place for girls and women to talk about the characters that move them/moved them as children.

Step 1. Please consider these questions:

A. Think back to when you were in elementary school: who were the TV/film characters you related to most?

B. Next, when you were in elementary school, which female TV/film character did you relate to most/was most influential? Why was she so influential? What drew you to her? What did she teach you about who you wanted to be/could become?

If you didn’t have a female character, who was the male character who influenced you? Or talk about how there wasn’t a character.

Step 2. The filming: Take your answer from question B above and film it.

Conclude your film with the message "I want to See Jane," add a visual display (written sign, computer animation, spell it out with macaroni, it’s up to you) which reads
"Get involved at www.TheGeenaDavisInstitute.org."
