Rebecca C. Hains (Ph.D., Temple University, 2007) is Assistant Professor of Communications at Salem State College. Her research interests include the construction of gender in the mass media; girls' negotiation of popular culture; and children's use of media in identity development. Her latest publication is “Inventing the Teenage Girl: The Construction of Female Identity in Nickelodeon’s My Life as a Teenage Robot" (Popular Communication, Sept. 2007).
